The traditional method

BAUER Pipe Irrigaton

There are a number of different methods for agricultural irrigation, pipe irrigation is one of them. It is considered a traditional method with quite logic advantages. Pipe irrigation enables extremely precise irrigation with relatively even water distribution over the entire surface. The water resources can be used optimally, wind drift and diffusion into the atmosphere are low. This method is perfect for vegetable crops such as new potatoes, carrots or onions.

At Bauer you will find all the components you need for your individual field irrigation method!

The classic system

Classic irrigation system

Classic irrigation system with sprinkler lines to lay out is perfectly suited for small areas and farms where enough workforce is available to operate the system.  The piping system consists of the following main components:

  • PUMP UNIT: tractor-, electro- or diesel pump unit
  • MAIN LINE: consisting of pipes laid in the ground or quick-coupling pipes, depending on the individual situation
  • PIPELINES AND SPRINKLER: The pipeline and the sprinklers need to be moved to the next position after the desired precipitation rate has been reached. Small as well as wide range sprinklers are suitable for this system. The type of the sprinkler depends on the size of the irrigated area.

The average expenditure of work for this irrigation system is approx. 2-3 hours per hectare and irrigation amount.

The upgrade

Hose pull system

This system is already a step towards saving time during the irrigation process. The irrigation system consists of the following components.

  • PUMPING UNIT : Tractor-, electro- or Diesel pumping unit
  • MAIN LINE:
  • SPRINKLER LINES AND SPRINKLER: With this system the sprinklers are not directly mounted on the pipe but on carts which are connected to 40m long 3/4 inch hoses which are connected at one end to the pipe. For moving the sprinkler it is only necessary to adjust the sprinkler carts and to pull the 3/4 inch hoses. This results in reduced work load and saves time.

With hose length of 40m it is possible to irrigate a trip width of 90 m, this means that only each 90 m the sprinkler line consisting of HK quick coupling pipes need to be laid out. This results in 30% less work compared to conventional irrigation systems. Expenditure of work is approx. 1,5 hours per hectar and irrigation amount.

By laying out the laterals at intervals of max. 90m no further pipes need to be installed during the irrigation process. Only the sprinkler carts with the hosed need to be moved.

This system is mainly used in the North African region. It is applicable for different field sizes and forms. Furthermore, only small sprinklers are used in order to apply only low precipitation rates. This is important for newly planted sensitive crops.

Pipe grid

This irrigation system represents a further extension to the conventional irrigation machine. The pipe grid consists of BAUER HK-pipes covering the entire field, which are laid out the beginning of the irrigation season.

During the irrigation process the pipes remain in place and only the sprinklers on the pipes need to be moved 18m further. This results in fewer labour requirements. The work required is approx. 0,8-1 hour per hectar or irrigation amount.

Depending on the length of the pipes one or two sprinklers are in operation, this system enables the use of small pipes (HK 50 pipes) making the pipe grid a very cost-saving solution.  With this system also small and medium sprinklers can be used so only low irrigation intensity is reached. Furthermore, an optimal use on all field forms and sizes is guaranteed.optimaler Einsatz  The pipe grid is an intermediate stage to the stationary irrigation system.

Solid Set System
Top Level

Solid Set System

When irrigating with a solid set system the laterals with sprinklers are laid out to cover the entire area to be irrigated. Operation is confined to opening and closing the connection points. Time expenditure is only 0,5 hours per hectar or irrigation amount.

The pipelines are laid out before the irrigation season starts and has to be removed before the harvest. This system can also be ugraded to a fully automatic system, i.e the irrigaiton and the sprinkler lines can be controlled via automatic control units and control valves. As a consequence it is possible that the system enables "rain at the push of a button".

Solid Set System
Classic System

The benefits of the classic system

  • Easy installation of the system, this means ready for installation in a very short time
  • High mobility by use of quick coupling pipes, it is possible to move the machine quickly to other areas
  • Economical use on every surface and area
  • The irrigation system can be extended at any time
  • It is possible to apply only low precipitation rates. This is important for sensitive, newly planted crops.
Hose pull system

The benefits of the hose pull system

  • The hose pull system needs 30% less work compared to the classical system. Expenditure of work is approx. 1,5 hours per hectare and precipitation rate.
  • The system can be moved more easily to other areas: For moving the system it is only necessary to adjust the sprinkler carts and to pull the 3/4 inch hoses.
  • Economical use on every surface and area
  • The irrigation system can be extended at any time
  • As only small sprinklers are used, it is possible to apply low precipitation rates resulting in a particularly fine rain. This is important for sensitive, newly planted crops.
Pipe Grid System

The benefits of the pipe grid system

  • The hose pull system needs even less work compared to the hose pull system. Expenditure of work is approx. 0.8 – 1.0 hours per hectare and irrigation rate.
  • The system can be moved more easily to other areas: For moving the system only the sprinklers have to be moved.
  • Small pipe diameters (HK50) are sufficient, which reduces also the price of the whole system.
  • Economical use on every surface and area
  • The irrigation system can be extended at any time
  • Small and medium sprinklers are used, precipitation rate is low.
Solid Set System

The benefits of the solid set system

  • Energy-saving due to low working pressures
  • Low precipitation rate due to the use of small sprinklers, therefore, applicable for all soils and very sensitive crops
  • Even distribution of precipitation and little influence of wind by chosing the right sprinkler
  • Very flexible, can be used on different areas
  • Possibility to expand the system from a simple piping system to a fully automatic stationary system which enables "rain at the push of a button".
  • Perfectly applicable for all field forms and sizes and crops
  • High operating safety as the systems has a simple component structure and trouble shooting can even be done by untrained staff
  • Low operating risk, as the system is divided into small sprinklers the irrigation can even be maintained in case of failure of parts, however, with reduced capacity.
