Cosmofield is an innovative technology for monitoring soil moisture – contactless, highly precise, area-wide, and in real time. It enables significantly more accurate and efficient decision-making when it comes to irrigation.
Thanks to Irricontrol technology, Bauer is the first company in the irrigation industry to offer this revolutionary solution. Cosmofield combines the precision of point-based sensors with the large-scale coverage required for modern agriculture.
Soil moisture can even be measured from space. Neutrons coming from outer space interact in a unique way with hydrogen – a key component of water (H₂O).
Cosmofield detects variations in the neutrons present near the Earth's surface and can thus measure soil moisture with high precision – continuously and in real time over areas of 5 to 10 hectares (at sea level).
This advanced technology – CRNS (Cosmic-Ray Neutron Sensing) – has been recognized by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) as a leading method for smart farming.
Conventional methods for measuring soil moisture have significant disadvantages:
Point-based sensors: They measure only very small areas of soil, require complex installation, and must be recalibrated for each crop.
Satellite measurements: They cover larger areas but only provide coarse, irregular data with limited depth accuracy.
Cosmofield is the smart, autonomous, and precise alternative.
It measures continuously, in real time, without touching the soil – and delivers reliable data for faster, more strategic irrigation decisions.
Optimized irrigation through precise moisture data
Non-invasive – no soil contact required
Large-area coverage: 5–10 hectares per device (scalable for larger fields)
Autonomous operation with ultra-low energy consumption
Real-time data – continuous and reliable
Unaffected by salinity, texture, density, and surface roughness
Quick, easy installation – no frequent removal or calibration needed
Soon to be integrated with the Irricontrol platform
