The First Pivot Systems in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, where a large share of the population depends on agriculture and stable yields are crucial for food security, efficient irrigation is gaining rapid importance.

With the installation of the country’s first pivot systems, BAUER has taken a pioneering step. Two Centerstar pivots now irrigate around 40 hectares of lentil fields in Pabna and Natore
– regions characterized by loamy to sandy loam soils and predominantly dry conditions. The systems operate up to ten months per year and, during planting season, run as long as 16 hours a day.

For decades, farmers relied on flood and canal irrigation sourced from groundwater – a labour-intensive method markedby high losses and uneven distribution. The new pivot systems introduce controlled, uniform water application for the first time. On-site training enabled local operators to quickly become familiar with the technology.

The introduction of center pivot irrigation marks an important milestone for a region shaped by agriculture. It demonstrates how innovative irrigation solutions can open new opportunities for farmers and shape emerging markets sustainably.
